Tien was born in Tuy Hoa, Phu Yen, Vietnam to Ghi Phan and Phuong Le. He is survived by his wife Thuy N. Nguyen, with 37 years of marriage, 5 children: Thao Phan, Thu Phan, Thinh Phan, Anh Thu Phan, An Phan, 2 grandchildren: Estee Su, Hai My Nguyen, other family members and friends.
