Maria Del Rosario Campos, affectionately known as Chayo, passed away on May 3,
2024 surrounded by her family, in Upland, California. Maria was born on May 18, 1952
in El Paso, Texas to Manuel and Apolinaria Gonzalez. She was a longtime resident of
Riverside, California and previously resided in La Habra, California. In 1970, she
graduated from Lowell High School in Whittier, California. She later attended Cal State
University Fullerton where she studied architecture for a couple of years.
Maria was a cherished member of the Gonzalez family, sister to Manuel (Susana)
Gonzalez, Julie (Mario) Medina, Gene (Debra) Gonzalez, Gerardo (Francisca)
Gonzalez, and Michael Gonzalez. In 1972, she married her beloved Eladio Campos in a
beautiful ceremony at their family church in La Habra, California, marking the beginning
of a shared life filled with love and devotion.
Maria’s love extended to her three children, George Campos, Armando (Angela)
Campos, and Gabriela Campos, who remember her as a nurturing soul, a guiding light,
always ready with a comforting word or a funny story. Her eight grandchildren, Nicolette,
Ariana, Marina (Marcela), Natalie, Romeo, Joseph, Julian, and Antonio, and two great-
grandchildren, Alina and Elliot, will carry her legacy of kindness and joy.
Maria dedicated her life to her family. As a young mother, she was a stay-at-home mom
who was active in her children's activities. In later years, she worked at Robinsons-May
and JCPenney. She was a wonderful mother who was always there for her family,
offering unconditional love, guidance, and wisdom. She was an amazing grandmother,
so supportive and lovingly in attendance at all of her grandchildren’s sports and
activities. Food was her love language as she loved cooking for her family. Maria was
extremely artistic and creative. She enjoyed making crafts and Halloween costumes and
decorating for the holidays with her grandchildren. Maria also graced many with her
talent as a piñata maker, known for her indestructible piñatas.
Predeceased by her parents, Maria’s memory will be cherished and kept alive by her
husband Eladio, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters, brothers,
nieces, and nephews.
