Jonathan H. López, October 18, 1988 - May 15, 2024: A Cherished Son, Father, Husband, Brother and Friend 

It is with profound sadness and heartfelt respect that we share the passing of Jonathan H. López, who transitioned on Wednesday, May 15, 2024. Born on October 18, 1988, Jonathan was the beloved son of Aracely Huerta and Meliton F. López. Jonathan joys the world as the father to Ariel Isabella Lopez. His life, while short, was abundant in love, laughter, and unforgettable moments of deep connection. 

Jonathan was a loving husband and father. He is a cherished man who has touched the lives of many with his positive words and attitude. He loved deeply and unconditionally, offering his support whenever possible, from a giving heart. As a caring friend, he was esteemed by all who knew him.

Jonathan took immense pride in his home garden, always eager to share pictures of his latest blooms. He lived for his family, cherishing every moment with his wife, Emma,  their children and several furry pets. A proud Raiders fan - so much so that their Nevada Stadium was where he proposed to Emma. Jonathan's enthusiasm for life and deep care was felt by his family through his sweet thoughtfulness. 

Jonathan was known to many simply as “Johnny “ and "JLo." He was a man of many talents and interests, each reflecting his vibrant personality. During his teenage years, Jonathan created the most colorful mixtapes, a testament to his creativity and passion for music and the arts - in its many forms. He was a familiar face at Riverside's annual Lights Festival, a tradition he cherished deeply, having been born and raised in the Inland Empire. 

His hobbies were as diverse as they were endearing. He enjoyed drawing, catching sunsets and mimicking the sounds of birds - finding peace and joy in these simple pleasures of life. Jonathan cherished mementos of his adventures to museums and movie screenings. 

Jonathan was a pillar in our Riverside community, volunteering and working for the Riverside Public Library from as early as middle school and into his young adulthood. Jonathan was also an enthusiastic youth leader at Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine - happy to support the tech needs of the youth choir group in any way he could. Jonathan was a proud alumnus of John W. North High, where he contributed to the cross-country and track teams, embodying dedication and perseverance.  He was an acrobat at heart, having been a gymnast and fan of the trampoline at Islander Park Pool. 

Jonathan embraced his Oaxaqueño and Mixteco roots with pride, celebrating his cultural heritage with passion, as sparked by his participation in various community programs such as the Inland Empire Future Leaders Program, the National Youth Sports Program and the UC Riverside’s Black Student Union Saturday Academy. Jonathan was always ready to support a good cause as a student leader for his high school’s Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán (MEChA) chapter. 

Jonathan’s life mattered, and his legacy will continue to be remembered, celebrated and honored. His transition is a significant moment for us to acknowledge, grieve, and celebrate the beautiful person he was.

Jonathan, you will always be remembered, loved, and celebrated. Your light continues to shine in our hearts. We thank family and friends for your showering of support in this season of our lives. 

A memorial service will be held on June 15, 2024, starting at 4PM at Sierra Vista Baptist Church. Address: 2300 N. Rancho Avenue. Colton, CA 92324. Friends and family are invited to gather and remember Jonathan's remarkable life at his viewing and reception.
