Irma Elena España Orozco (1932 – 2026)

Irma Elena España Orozco partió de este mundo rodeada del amor de sus hijos e hijas el 30 de marzo de 2026, a la edad de 94 años. Su partida deja un profundo vacío en todos aquellos que tuvieron la fortuna de ser parte de su vida en su papel de esposa, madre, hermana o amiga. 

Doña Elenita —como muchos la llamaban— nació el 21 de enero de 1932 en Tonalá, Chiapas, México. Sus padres fueron Demetrio Flaviano España Labat, originario de Atlixco, Puebla, y Guadalupe Orozco Alegría, originaria de Chiapas. Fue la séptima de ocho hermanos: Francisco, Carlos, Salvador, Mercedes (quien falleció a una temprana edad), Rosario, Romeo y Mercedes. Por todos ellos profesó un profundo afecto; su partida cierra el capítulo de esa generación.

Cursó hasta el sexto año de primaria. Aunque rara vez se quejaba de las dificultades que vivió durante su niñez, siempre lamentó no haber podido continuar sus estudios. A los 13 años comenzó a trabajar en el negocio de la familia tras el lamentable fallecimiento de su padre, etapa en la que desarrolló un notable sentido comercial y habilidades matemáticas que la acompañaron toda su vida.

Vivió gran parte de su niñez y juventud en su querido Tonalá, una etapa que marcó su vida y a la que volvía constantemente en sus relatos inspirados en sus propias vivencias. Allí forjó recuerdos entrañables: los paseos por la plaza, los bailes, las amistades y una vida familiar que giraba en torno al negocio. A los 19 años contrajo nupcias con Natal Limón Rossainz, con quien formó una familia en Puebla. Juntos tuvieron ocho hijos: Beatriz, Mercedes, Jaime, Gonzalo, Elena, Lourdes, Mónica y Juan Carlos.

Muchos años después emigró a Los Ángeles, California, para estar cerca de sus hijos que ya vivían en este lado de la frontera. Ese fue un paso difícil, pues significó dejar atrás su tierra, costumbres y gran parte de su historia. Sin embargo, con la fortaleza que la caracterizó, supo adaptarse a los cambios, abrir su corazón a nuevas amistades y aceptar su nueva vida con serenidad. 

A ella se le recordará como una persona generosa, de amor incondicional hacia los suyos y poseedora de una sabiduría forjada a lo largo de la vida. Las puertas de su casa siempre estaban abiertas y en su presencia todos se sentían a gusto y bienvenidos. Compartir los deliciosos platillos que preparaba con esmero y cariño era su manera de demostrar su amor. Otra de sus cualidades era hacer bromas y comentarios graciosos en sus conversaciones con los demás, lo que era motivo de sonrisas y momentos de alegría. 

Su recuerdo vivirá para siempre en el corazón de sus seres queridos y de todos los que la conocieron.

Irma Elena España Orozco departed this world surrounded by the love of her sons and daughters on March 30, 2026, at the age of 94. Her passing leaves a deep void on all those who had the fortune of being part of her life as a wife, mother, sister, or friend.

Doña Elenita —as many called her— was born on January 21, 1932, in Tonalá, Chiapas, México. Her parents were Demetrio Flaviano España Labat, from Atlixco, Puebla, and Guadalupe Orozco Alegría, from Chiapas. She was the seventh of eight siblings: Francisco, Carlos, Salvador, Mercedes (who passed away at an early age), Rosario, Romeo, and Mercedes. She held a deep affection for all of them; her passing closes the chapter of that generation.

She attended school through the sixth grade. Although she rarely complained about the hardships faced during her childhood, she always regretted not being able to continue her studies. At the age of 13, she began working in the family business following the untimely death of her father—a stage in which she developed a remarkable business sense and mathematical skills that stayed with her throughout her life.

She spent much of her childhood and youth in her beloved Tonalá, a period that marked her life and to which she constantly returned in stories inspired by her own experiences. There, she forged cherished memories: strolls through the main plaza, dances, friendships, and a family life that revolved around the business. At the age of 19, she married Natal Limón Rossainz, with whom she formed a family in Puebla. Together they had eight children: Beatriz, Mercedes, Jaime, Gonzalo, Elena, Lourdes, Mónica, and Juan Carlos.

Many years later, she emigrated to Los Angeles, California, to be near her children who were already living on this side of the border. This was a difficult step, as it meant leaving behind her land, her customs, and a large part of her history. However, with the strength that characterized her, she knew how to adapt to change, open her heart to new friendships, and embrace her new life with serenity.

She will be remembered as a generous person, one of unconditional love for her family, and a possessor of wisdom forged throughout a long life. The doors of her house were always open, and in her presence, every guest felt comfortable and welcome. Sharing the delicious dishes that she prepared with care and affection was her way of showing her love. Another of her qualities was making jokes and humorous comments in her conversations, which always brought smiles and moments of joy to those present.

Her memory will live forever in the hearts of her loved ones and all who knew her.
